Griffin Image
Griffin comes from the proven breeding method and technique which has produced a succession of reliable varieties for the UK grower. It has performed exceptionally well in official and private trials from 2001 to 2007, producing yields which have been consistently over that of Clipper and Target. Griffin is suited to a wide range of soil types and has shown particularly good results on lighter to medium type soils. If Wizard does not suit your situation and or you are looking for a replacement Clipper/Target type variety with slightly shorter straw then Griffin is an ideal variety.

Agronomics

Key attributes recognised and requested by UK growers are early maturity and shorter straw. For maturity Griffin is similar to Wizard in being 3 to 4 days earlier than Clipper and Target. For straw height Griffin is 10cm shorter then Target and 14cm shorter than Clipper.

Disease Resistance

Griffin has very good resistance to Ascochyta, rated 9 (similar to Wizard and Clipper)

Grain Quality

Griffin is a traditional feeding type bean (black hilum) with a high protein content at 27.9% (0.5% more than Clipper and Target). It is 5 to 7% larger seeded than Clipper and Target at around 700 grams.
