Clipper
Image
Clipper was first established in 1998 and since then has been very widely grown around the UK. With full recommendation on the NIAB 2008 list, Clipper offers comprehensive agronomics and yield. When initially introduced Clipper offered a high yield combined with very good disease resistance, a breakthrough in winter bean breeding at the time. Clipper still offers this outstanding performance and has stood the test of time with reliable consistency.
The excellent all round disease rating of Clipper comes mainly from its good score for Ascochyta, this has been of particular benefit in recent years when foliar diseases have been more prevelant.
Clipper has good standing power and will perform equallly well on a variety of soil types.

Agronomy
Clipper is a medium to large seeded bean ranging from 575 to 675 in TGW. Growers should aim to achieve 15 to 18 plants established allowing for 20% seed bed loss (for sowing late October to mid-November), also taking the germination of the seed into account.

The above seed rate calculation would aim to achieve a final figure of 35 to 50 pod bearing stems per M2.
Before sowing check the specification of your seed re: TGW + Germ.
As a large seeded type Clipper performs best, when ploughed into a depth of 15cm (6 inches), allowing for soil conditions, ideally third week October to second week November.
